Tensions Raise Specter of Gas at $5 a Gallon

HOUSTON — Gasoline for $5 a gallon? The possibility is hardly far-fetched

With no clear end to tensions with Iran and Syria and rising demand from countries like China, gas prices are already at record highs for the winter months — averaging $4.32 in California and $3.73 a gallon nationally on Wednesday, according to AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report. As summer approaches, demand for gasoline rises, typically pushing prices up around 20 cents a gallon.

U.S. doles out last of loan aid to solar projects

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Obama administration on Friday approved more than $4.7 billion in loan guarantees for major solar projects as the government closed out an incentive program embroiled in controversy over the bankruptcy of one of its biggest projects.

Romney Endorses Federal Investment in Energy Innovation

Today, the Romney campaign released his 59-point economic plan in a 160-page book (PDF here). While most of the energy policy section is spent debunking the “green jobs myth” and calling for expanded domestic fossil fuel production, it endorses a significant role for federal investment in alternative energy research and development (R&D) and supports the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Energy (ARPA-E).
