HERS Testing: Third Party Mandatory Testing
Did you know that continuing into 2019, the state of California is requiring that all HERS testing involved in staying Title 24 compliant must be done through a third party certifier or rater? Things are changing for contractors and the compliance of their construction projects, so here’s what you need to know, and how We Green can help.
Why Third Party?
Third party verifications ensure that no HERS test is passed based on an entity’s self interest. This means that HVAC contractors cannot pass their own work as compliant. When you trust a third party HERS rater, you know for sure that you are getting objective verifications on your project.
What Will a Third Party HERS Rater Do?
A third party HERS rater will asses all the necessary systems involved in your project. This may include the SEER ratings on HVAC equipment, the efficiency of the associated ductwork, any lighting equipment, water heaters, gas appliances, and more. The HERS rater will then provide certified paperwork of the rating to the California Energy Commission and the HERS database.
